
DigHealth Project Kicks Off in Greece with Strategic Partner Meeting and First Capacity-Building Training
Piraeus, Greece – January 20–23, 2025
The DigHealth Project – “Micro-credentials in Digital Health for Ethiopia and Somalia”, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education programme, officially launched with a two-day Kick-Off Meeting and a two-day training session held in Piraeus, Greece.
The event, hosted by the University of Piraeus, brought together project partners from Europe, Ethiopia, and Somalia to coordinate the implementation of this ambitious three-year initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare education through digital transformation and micro-credential programmes.
Kick-Off Meeting Highlights (Jan 20–21, 2025)
Partners engaged in strategic planning around key project components, including:
- Introduction to the DigHealth concept, goals, and expected impact (led by IHF)
- Development of the dissemination and visibility strategy (SOEYDA & IHF)
- Quality assurance, project management, and financial guidelines (IHF & RIT Croatia)
- Collaborative planning for equipment procurement in African universities
- Deep dive into WP2 (Needs and Competencies Analysis) and WP3 (Didactic Material Development)
Workshops and working sessions facilitated the exchange of practices and reinforced the consortium’s shared vision to bring sustainable, high-quality digital health education to universities in Ethiopia and Somalia.
1st Project Training Session (Jan 22–23, 2025)
The first capacity-building training focused on best practices for building digital health programmes, led by experts from RIT Croatia, CUC, and UNIPI. Topics included:
- Introduction to digital health and telemedicine
- Long-term telemedicine strategies and infrastructure development
- Stakeholder engagement and cultural aspects in tech adoption
- AI applications in healthcare and biomedical systems
- Workshops on designing surveys and identifying clinical/technical needs
This training laid the foundation for the creation of localized, high-impact micro-credential curricula tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals in partner countries.
